Introduction: In this passage of scripture Jesus Christ promises rest to the person that does the things contained in these verses. Do you long for rest but have none, do these things and enjoy the rest of Jesus Christ.
- Come Unto Me– Jesus Christ is the one making this invitation to all people. Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh. A relationship not a religion.
- What you’ve been doing doesn’t work, You must surrender and go to Him.
- Hebrews 4:14-16 you can Go to Jesus Christ because He has been exactly where you are and can help you.
- Revelation 22:17 “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely”.
- All Ye that Labour and are heavy laden– This is a person that is exhausted with life. Your job, your children, your ministry, your fear, your disappointment, your uncertainty, your health issues, your depression, your marriage, money and possessions, loneliness, your SIN and guilt. Genesis 3:17, Job 14:1 “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble”.
- I will give you rest– This is a great promise- You WILL RECEIVE REST. When you’re looking for answers and cant find them you get weary. Rest and refreshment for the body, mind, and spirit. Psalm 4:8, Psalm 55:22.
- There is no rest like the rest of Jesus Christ. Sleep at night.
- Take My Yoke Upon You– a yoke is a wooden collar like instrument placed on the neck and shoulders of the oxen. It was used for tying the ropes of a plough or cart to an oxen to pull the load. Jesus is Calling us into a relationship. Matthew 7:24 “Therefore whosoever heareth these saying of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock”.
- Learn of Me– Learn his character, his promises, his ways, his word. Do you want to learn of Jesus Christ? We are to learn how to live and labor under His leadership, direction, guidance, and care. We learn from his gentleness, care, compassion, obedience to the Father.
- Luke 10:39-42 Mary chose to sit at the feet of Jesus and learn of Him. When you sit at the feet of Jesus Christ and hear His word, you find rest.
- For I am Meek and Lowly of Heart– Jesus cares and looks after us. He is concerned and compassionate knowing how far we can go and how capable we are.
- And Ye shall find Rest unto your Souls– This is deeper than the physical, its the soul. Romans 5:1 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. This has to do with Salvation- rest unto your souls.
- For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light– II Corinthians 12:7-9
- The yoke of Christ’s commands is an easy yoke. Sweet and pleasant. Nothing but good things, love, mercy, grace, etc. Galatians 5:1; I John 5:3
Conclusion: If you are not saved, you wont find rest for your soul unto you believe on Jesus Christ and accept Him as your personal savior. If your saved, get in his yoke and find rest.
