Reasons to Confess Jesus Christ | Acts 4 | Anchor Baptist Church

Introduction: There is a difference between believing on Jesus Christ and confessing Jesus Christ. Salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ, but the believer who has believed and trusted Christ should not be ashamed to identify with Him.

We live in a day when people will talk about all kinds of things but they’re uncomfortable talking about Jesus. Politics, sports, job, family, weather.

We must Confess Jesus Christ because:

1. Christ is the Only Way of Salvation– Acts 4:10-12 If a person was bitten by a deadly snake, the hospital has only one antivenin that works. Jesus is the only antidote for sin. John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”. I Corinthians 15:1-4 This is the gospel of salvation.

2. Christ has Saved Us (and we are therefore debtors)– Romans 1:14-16 Christ saved us from Hell, and a life of sin and bondage. Jesus Christ forgave our sins, redeemed us, justified us, adopted us, gave us eternal life, a home in heaven, changed your life, gave you hope, and peace. Are you ashamed of the one who died for you? II Corinthains 5:14-15 “For the love of Christ constraineth (compels /urges) us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again”. I John 4:19 “We love him, because he first love us”.

3. Christ Commands Us to Confess HIm– Matthew 10:32-33.  Matthew 28:19-20 The Great Commission is a command. We are to take the Gospel to the World. Acts 1:8. Mark 16:15 “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”.

4. Christ Warns us Not To Be Ashamed– Mark 8:38 / Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ”. Jesus is asking us to identify with Him and not be ashamed of Him. Do it openly, not secretly. Peter denied Jesus Christ three times-Matthew 26:69 Some are ashamed because they fear Man.

5. Christ Expects our Life to match our Confession– Matthew 7:15-20 Titus 1:16 “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate”. Is it possible to be a Christian while living like the world. Our confession should be supported by our conduct. This points other to Christ. Can you imagine a lighthouse keeper who refuses to turn on the light during a storm because he doesn’t want to draw attention to himself.

Conclusion: Don’t be ashamed to identify with Jesus Christ.
