Introduction: This message has to do with the different kinds of walk that are found in Ephesians. Joey often says “you can tell a lot by the way someone walks”. The “walk” in the Bible has to do with your manner of life, how you conduct yourself, how you live day by day. Here you will see the different walks progress from a lost person to a saved person that’s walking in good fellowship with Jesus Christ.
- The Walk of the Unsaved– Ephesians 2:2 “According to the course of this world”. “Wherein in time past”. This was what their life was before salvation. This makes us appreciate what Jesus did for uas at salvation.
- The Walk of Good Works– Ephesians 2:10 “created in Christ Jesus unto good works”. A Christian doesn’t do good works to get saved or to stay saved but does good works because he is saved. You gifts, talents, abilities that God has given you. You can give money, encourage someone, pray with someone, physical helps, you can tell people about Jesus. God has a plan for you.
- The Worthy Walk– Ephesians 4:1 “of the vocation wherewith ye are called”. The Christins Career or Job is to obey Christ. Your calling is a hight calling, heavenly calling, a Holy calling. This is related to your attitude vs 2 and your actions.
- The Different Walk– Ephesians 4:17 “not as other gentiles walk”. Paul remembers what his old life before salvation was like, and he challenges these believers to no live like the world. (Henceforth- from this point forward). Fruits of the unsaved- Vain mind, Darkened understanding, alienated from God, Ignorance, Blindness of heart, dulled feelings, lasciviousness, uncleanness, greediness. There is an old way of thinking, talking, responding, treating people, and way of living.
- The Walk of Love– Ephesians 5:2 “as Christ also hath love us”. A Christian should be known if for nothing else, their Love. John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”. We are to imitate Christ’s love. Love even when mistreated. Love those that disagree with us. Love when you are rejected. When you Love you forgive, serve others, gives, bears burdens, tells the truth even when it hurts. Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is Love”.
- The walk of Light– Ephesian 5:8 “as children of light”. Notice how “ye were sometimes darkness”- I Thessalonians 5:5. Now that the light of world is our savior and the Father of lights is our Father, we are children of light. This is an exhortation for separation and sanctification. Here you see the children of light in contrast to the children of disobedience. Darkness is where all the bad things happen. Light repels the cockroaches. Light speaks of holiness. The Word of God is light and we are to walk in it. Psalm 119:105 “Why word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”.
- The Circumspect Walk– Ephesian 5:15 “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise”. To walk circumspectly (cautiously/carefully/with watchfulness). God wants the believer to walk cautiously and carefully through life. We can walk as fools. This person doesn’t walk being alert to the temptations and pitfalls of life. He is not strict, disciplined, and controlled. He is careless, uncaring, and worldly minded. We can walk as wise. This person walks thoughtfully, spiritually minded, he know Christ personally. This person walks strict, disciplined, controlled. Considers the matter, the displeasure of God, and consequences of a wrong step. Spends his time wisely “because the days are evil”.
Conclusion: How is your walk? Are you unsaved? Are you saved but walking according to the devil and the ways of the world? Are you walking according to the old man or new man? Are you waling in darkness in need of light? Are you walking according to your own will or the will of God?
