Introduction: John 3:16 is perhaps one of the most amazing verses found in our Bibles. It is amazing because of the things that are contained in one sing verse. It has been quoted in a multitude of events, Sunday school classes, sporting events, etc. Simply Amazing!
An Amazing Verse has:
- An Amazing God– “For God”. There are many gods, but there is none like our God. Genesis 1:1- the God of all creation. He is the God Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. II Samuel 7:22 “Wherefore thou art great, I LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears”. Our God fulfills promises, make grace abound, does exceedingly abundantly, cares for us, shows us compassion, give us counsel, guides us, helps us, is faithful, gentle, and blesses us abundantly.
- An Amazing Love– “so loved”. This is a kind of love that doesn’t compare. John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”. Romans 5:8 “God comendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”.
- An Amazing Reach– “the world”. God loves every single person in this world. “Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the WORLD, red and yellow black and white, they are precious in his sight, Jesus loves the children of the World”. No matter what part of the world people find themselves in, and what condition they are in, God loves them. This includes everyone here this morning.
- An Amazing Savior– “that he gave his only begotten Son”. His name is Jesus Christ. Romans 8:32 “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things”. He left his throne in heaven to come to this earth II Corinthians 8:9 “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich”.
- An Amazing Offer– “that whosoever”. This is anyone that is willing to believe on Him and receive Him. Jesus didn’t just die for the “elect” he died for “whosoever” thats anyone. We are not calvinist. II Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance”. You can be the “whosoever”. It doesn’t matter how good or bad you are. Revelation 22:17 “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely”.
- An Amazing Method– “believeth in him”. This is done by believing by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast”. Romans 10:9-10. This is the gospel- I Corinthians 15:1-4
- An Amazing Reward– “should not perish, but have everlasting life”. The moment that a person believes on Jesus Christ, he becomes a child of God and gets placed into the body of Jesus Christ. So when the person dies, he is absent from the body and present with the Lord. John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life”. I Corinthians 15:53 “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality”.
