Introduction: The second mystery we will be covering this evening is the Mystery of Christ in You. Notice in Colossians 1:26 how this mystery had “been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to the saints”, that’s us, we are the saints.
In Verse 27, we are told what this mystery is: “Christ in you, the hope of glory”. Jesus Christ is inside every saved person. How do explain that? This is a mystery because we are told in the Bible it is and because it cannot be explained. How do you explain to someone that Jesus Christ, the Creator of all things, lives in you while at the same time, in every other believer alive.
John 14:16-26: In John 14:12 Jesus is fixing to ascend to the Father “because I go unto my Father”. Because of it, he is mentioning to his disciples in vs 18 “I will come to you” and in vs 20 he says, “I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you”. Furthermore, since Jesus won’t be present with them personally, he will do something better by being in all of them, and for ever vs 16 “that he may abide with you for ever”.
So not only is Jesus Christ in us, but also in our first lesson we mentioned- I John 5:7 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one”. When you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, He took up residence in you along with the Holy Spirit of God.
Because Jesus Christ is in the Believer:
We have Hope- Colossians 1:26-27 “The Hope of Glory”- Christ in us gives us the hope of Glory- we are eternally secure; we will be in heaven when we die. Titus 1:2 “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.”
We can produce good works- Colossians 1:29 “Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.” Because Jesus Christ is in us, we can equip ourselves with good works and live like Christ lived. Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
We Can Bear Fruit- John 15:1-5. Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
We have Freedom from Sin- Romans 8:9-11 This body is subject to death because of sin however, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. This gives us power and victory to overcome sin and walk in newness of life. We don’t have to live in the merry-go-round of sin. I Corinthains 6:19-20 “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” We do what God says, the past is over.
We are a New Man- Galatians 2:20- the old man is crucified with Christ and the new man (Jesus Christ in us) now lives. The old man is dead and we should yield to Jesus Christ. II Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Old friends, habbits, addictions, ways, etc., are in the past. Now we should love the things of God like church, Bible, Godly music, etc.
We Can Overcome the World- I John 4:4 “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” The previous verses are talking about overcoming false spirits or prophets that are preaching false things like this, Jesus Christ has not come in the flesh.
