Be Thankful | I Thess 5:8 | Anchor Baptist Church

Introduction: Thanksgiving is more than a holiday, a meal, or a gathering with family and friends. It is an opportunity to stop and consider the goodness of God in our lives.

We should be Thankful for what God has done:

  1. God Has Saved Us– Ephesians 2:8-9 We may have financial difficulties, health problems, family burdens, or disappointments. But if we have trusted Jesus Christ as our savior, God has given us something way better than this world can give or offer.
    • Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. Jesus Christ suffered for our sins, shed his precious blood, died in our place, rose again the third day.
    • I Peter 1:18-19 reminds us that were redeemed, not with corruptible things such as silver and gold, but the
  1. God Has Given Us a Bible– Psalm 119:105 God has given us His Word so that we are not wondering in this world without direction. People are searching for answers, but are they looking in this Bible?
  • The scriptures give us direction. Teaches us what is right and wrong. Shows us what pleases God. Gives us wisdom for life’s decisions. Warns us about dangers in this life.
  • Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us to trust in the Lord with all your heart.
  • II Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”.
  • Read it, study it, meditate in it, obey it.
  1. God Has Supplied Our Needs– Philippians 4:19 God is the great provider. He gives everything that we need. We wake up with good health, eat breakfast, put on clothes, get to go to work, live in a nice house with nice cars, all these come from God.
  • Matthew 6:31-34 this is what Jesus told his disciples that God knows all your needs.
  • Be Content- I Timothy 6:8 “and having food and raiment let us be therewith content”.
  • Psalm 68:19 “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation”. Psalm 37:25
  1. God Has Placed Others in Our Lives– Philippians 1:3 God never intended for the Christian to go through life entirely alone. He placed people in our lives to encourage us, strengthened us, teach us, and help us along the way.
  • Thank God for your spouses who stand beside you. Thank God for your children who are a blessing. Thank God for your parents who teach you.
  • Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he fallen; for he hath not another to help him up”.
  • We should thank the Lord for this church: we get to worship together, hear the preaching of God’s Word, encourage one another, pray for one another, serve the Lord together.
  1. God Has Promised Us a Future– Titus 2:13 One of the greatest blessings of being a Christian is knowing that this world is not our final home. We are pilgrims, sojourners, we are just passing through.
  • Jesus will descend from Heaven- I Thessalonians 4:16-17
  • We have a mansion waiting for us- John 14:1-3.
  • Be thankful for a sure future with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Conclusion: How much have we thanked the Lord this week, month, or year? We may not have everything that we want, but we sure have everything we need. Make thanksgiving a daily part of our lives rather than something we do once a year.
