Noah Stood Out in a Wicked Generation (Gen 6:5-12)

Introduction: God created the earth and everything in it to include mankind. One day God looked down upon the earth and saw corruption, violence, wickedness, and sin was normal. But there was a man who stood out from everyone else, his name was Noah. God asked Noah to build an Ark and get in because He was going to flood the earth. The Ark is a type of Christ, a place of refuge. God’s judgment was coming and people needed to get in to be saved from the flood. 

Noah stood out because: 

  1. Noah walked with God– Genesis 6:9 Noah lived in a world where there was violence and corruption and yet He was not like them. When you walk with God: When you walk with God you have fellowship, agreement, direction, and a daily relationship. Your walk will stand out. The things you say, things you see, places you go, friends you have. Noah was a Just Man (treated other fairly and with integrity). Noah was perfect in his generation (he was complete, whole, blameless). 
  1. Noah Believed God– Genesis 6:17 When you walk with God you believe everything God says. His Word become your authority. These are the Words of God and it doesn’t matter what we think about it, you must believe them. Our thinking must adjust to God’s Words. Hebrews 11:7 Noah lived amongst a people of unbelief and Noah believed God although he hadn’t seen rain, Genesis 2:5-6. Noah was told to build an Ark and he did. Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him”. 
  1. Noah was Obedient to God– Genesis 6:22 “According to all that God commanded him”. Noah did ALL that God COMMANDED him. Noah followed all the instructions. God will show you what He wants you to do. For Noah it was build an Ark. When you walk with God it’s easy to obey God. John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments”. James 1:22 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only”. 
  1. Noah was Righteous before God– Genesis 7:1 “for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation”. Noah wasn’t just righteous before the eyes of the people but with God- that’s most important. II Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him”.
  1. Noah Feared God– Hebrews 11:7 Noah heard God’s warnings and moved with fear. God means what He says. Don’t fear man, fear God. Proverbs 29:25 “The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe”.Proverbs 16:6 “by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil”. Noah didn’t follow the evil around him but departed from it. Fearing God teaches us to honor Him, obey Him, and take His Word seriously.
  1. Noah was a Preacher of Righteousness– II Peter 2:5 (120 years) Noah was building the ark and warning people. Noah was not silent. This wasn’t done in secret. Noah had a message. Matthew 24:38-39  People were living their own lives and didn’t care about Noah’s preaching. Romans 10:13-17 

Conclusion: Just like the Ark is a picture of Jesus Christ, today you can believe on Jesus Christ and be Judged for your righteousness found in Him. Judgment is coming again and you must be ready. God promised not to flood the earth anymore however, you must be ready. Don’t stay outside the Ark, get in Jesus Christ.
