A Study on the King James Bible (II Timothy 3:16)

Introduction: Currently there are approximately 450 known versions of the Bible in English. With so many Bible versions, people ask themselves the question, do I have God’s Word? Now regardless of which Bible you prefer, this information can be useful to you if you approach it with an open mind and an open heart.

We Believe the King James Bible is the Word of God because:

  1. It is Inspired– Inspiration is God telling you what the scriptures say so that you can understand them. God is the author of the Bible.
    • II Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given byinspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
    • I Corinthians 2:13 “Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghostteacheth”.
  1. It has been Preserved– Psalm 12:6-7 “The words of the LORD are pure word: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever”. (To preserve is to keep or save from destruction).
  • Pure- Proverbs 30:5 “Every word of God ispure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him”. There is nothing wrong, defiling or perverse in them.
  • Tried- Psalm 18:30 “As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him”. It has endured the test of time for centuries and still accomplishing God’s work today.
  • Preserved Forever- Psalm 119:89 “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven”. Not only preserved in heaven but in a “furnace of earth” forever.
  1. It doesn’t add or remove from God’s Word
  • Revelation 22:18-19 “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the books of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book”.
  • Jeremiah 26:2 “Thus saith the LORD; stand in the court of the Lord’s house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’S house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word”.
  • Deuteronomy 12:32 “What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it”.
  1. It has the Perfect Doctrines
    • Blood Atonement– This is that the blood of Jesus Christ atoned (paid in full/appeased God’s wrath) for our sins. KJV- Colossians 1:14 “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins”. “Through his blood” is deleted from RV, ASV, NIV, NASV, NLT, HCSB, ESV. Redemption- redeemed is bought back through his blood. The Bible says in Hebrews 9:22 “without shedding of blood is no remission”.
  • Deity of Jesus Christ– This is that Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh. KJV- I Timothy 3:16 “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory”. “God” has been replaced with “who” or “he who”. This makes a person doubt if Jesus was really God.
    • KJV- I John 5:7 “For there are three that bear record in heaven. The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” In this verse we can clearly see the trinity- one God manifested in three persons. Modern Bibles will remove this verse in its entirety by splitting verse 6 and or verse 8. Some modern Bible will also omit “Lord” or “Christ”.
  • Virgin Birth of Jesus ChristThis is that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit of God in a virgin woman named Mary. KJV-Luke 2:33 “And Joseph and his mother marveled at those things which were spoken of him”. NIV “The child’s fatherand mother marveled at what was said about him.” Jesus Christ is the son of God NOT the son of Joseph, a human being. Matthew 1:18 “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost”.
    • KJV says in Luke 2:48 “thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing”. Jesus Christ corrects his mother in vs 49 “I must be about my Father’s business”. Joseph was a carpenter according to Matthew 13:55 and he wasn’t talking about carpentry business.
  • The existence of a literal heaven John 3:13 KJV “And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.” The MSG “No one has ever gone up into the presence of God except the One who came down from that Presence, the Son of Man.” Heaven and presence of God are two different things and “which IS in heaven” has been removed.
  • The existence of a literal hell- Hell is a real place however, modern Bibles will change the word “Hell” with “Hades or grave”. Mark 9:42-46 “Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched”.  Why would the NIV remove the verse in its entirety twice on vs 44 and 46.
  • The Trinity– I John 5:7 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one”. NIV “For there are three that testify”. Why did they have to take out the three “The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost”.

4. It Requires Discipleship– Mark 10:21 “Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.”  Modern versions omit “take up the cross”. Discipleship will be costly and require your entire life. Luke 14:26 “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.”

  1. There are No Omissions– This is not to pick on the New King James Bible, but to bring forth what they claim:(The NKJV aims to maintain the literary beauty and poetic style of the KJV while updating the vocabulary and grammar to make it more understandable for contemporary readers. It removes archaic pronouns like “thou” and “thee,” and modernizes verb forms (e.g., “speaks” instead of “speaketh”).
  • The NKJB omits (leaves out) the following words: Lord 66 Times; God 52 Times; Heaven 50 Times; Fornication 23 Times; Repent 44 Times; Blood 23 Times; JEHOVA, New Testament and Damnation entirely; Hell 22 Times; Devil 26 Times; Soul 137 Times.

Conclusion: Get alone with God and ask the Lord to show you the truth found in the King James Bible, and He will.
