Jesus-Born To Save Sinners (Matt 1:21)

Matthew 1:21 “And shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.”

Introduction: this is the reason for the season. Without the birth of Jesus Christ there is no Christmas. Let’s take a look at this passage and break it down.

In this passage we see

  1. There’s a Person– “for he”, that is Jesus Christ. This baby was to be conceived “of the Holy Ghost”. This is supernatural. This person is Jesus Christ, the savior of the whole world. Jesus wasn’t just a good person, a prophet, a teacher, but the Son of God manifest in the flesh.
    • I Timothy 3:16 “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh…”
    • This baby that grew up to be 33 years old was fully man and fully God- John 3:16.
  1. There’s an Assurance– “shall”- that’s a promise from God who cannot lie. Because this is God- Jesus Christ, what He promises he must do.
  • Titus 1:1-2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began”.
  • Every promise of God in the Bible has come to pass or will come to pass, you can count on it.
  1. There’s a Purpose– “save”- to save is to deliver. A person that does’t believe in Jesus Christ is destined for Hell fire which burns for ever. The purpose is to save you from that destination.
  • Ephesians 2:12 “that at that time ye were without Christ…having no hope, and without God in the world”.
  • I Timothy 1:15 “that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of who I am chief.”
  • God want to save you from your sin so you don’t have to go to that place.
  1. There’s a People– “his people”. When you believe in Jesus Christ you become his people, one of his children.
  • John 10:26-27 “Ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep…my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand”.
  • Romans 10:13 “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”.
  • You can become his child, one of His, if you believe on him this morning.
  1. There’s a Problem– “from their sins”. Everyone is a sinner and is separated from God.
  • Romans 3:23- “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”.
  • Isaiah 59:2 “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear”. If there was no sin there wouldn’t be the need for a savior.
  • If you stay in this condition you are on your way to hell. You must have Jesus Christ take away your sins and give you his righteousness- Romans 4:24.

Conclusion: This is the reason for the season. Jesus Christ was born of a virgin to save his people from their sins. This is the best thing that could have ever happened to human race.
