God’s Attributes (I Pet 1:16)

Introduction: This morning we want to see some attributes of God. These things about God are undeniable and the Bible is very clear about it.

  1. God is Holy– I Peter 1:16 “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy”. To be holy is to be righteous, pure, sinless, perfect, complete, consecrated, dedicated, set apart. There is nothing evil, defiling, unrighteous, or sinful about God. Isaiah 6:3 “And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory”. Because God is Holy:
    • He expect us to be Holy also- II Timothy 2:20-21-“sanctified, and meet for the masters use”.To be set apart from the world unto Him. We must live like God and be like God. We must pursue, seek, and go after holiness.
    • He will Judge All Things- II Timothy 4:1, 8- everything we do good or bad will be judged by God one day.
  1. God is Good– Psalm 25:8 “Good and upright is the Lord”. Psalm 119:68 “Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes”. It’s the goodness of God that leadeth a man to repentance- Romans 2:4 “Or dispisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and long-suffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leaders thee to repentance”. When you behave bad, God is good. When you stray from Him, God is good. When you reject God, God is good. When you turn from God, God is good. When you forget about God, God is good.
  1. God is Faithful– I Corinthians 10:13, According to Webster’s dictionary Faithfulness is firmly adhering to duty; of true fidelity; loyal, true to allegiance. Everything about who God is and does is faithful.
  • Faithful in His Word- Titus 1:9 “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught”.
  • Faithful in His Promises- Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised”.
  • Faithful in His Provisions-Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”.
  1. God is Long-suffering– Numbers 14:18 “The Lord is long-suffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression”. Ecclesiastes 8:1 “Because sentence against an evil work in not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil”. God is long-suffering, waiting for you to turn from your sin. I Peter 3:19-20 “By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water”. God has been long-suffering from the beginning. II Peter 3:9- God is long-suffering with the lost world, not willing that any should perish.
  1. God is Love– John 3:16 God’s display of love is found in Calvary and that’s where you will find it. There is nothing that you’ve done that will reject God’s love from you. I John 3:16 “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us”. The greatest form of sacrifice. God Loves The Sinner- Romans 5:8 “but God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”.God Won’t Stop Loving You-  I John 4:8, 10, 16 No matter what you do, God’s love is sufficient.

Conclusion: These are some of the attributes of God.
