Be Quiet With Your Preaching (Mark 16:15)

Introduction: In Mark 16:15 we are commanded by God to “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”. This command is still in place today, every opportunity that we get, we must preach the gospel to others.

When you preach the gospel, people will not like it. Other brethren will think you’re more spiritual, family members will think your holier than thou, the lost people will abhor it, the devil will despise it, and all together they will attempt to quiet your preaching. This morning we would like to look at several ways that people and the devil attempted to quiet the preaching of people in the Bible.

Men will attempt to Quiet your preaching by

  1. Getting you off the Path– Isaiah 30:8-11When you preach the truth’s of God from this Bible, people will not like it and first they will attempt to get you off the path. If they can get you off the path that you have chosen, then they don’t have to hear your preaching. People will try very hard to get you “out of your religion”.
    • They encouraged Amos to stop- Amos 7:13 “But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court”.
    • “Your Friends”- will try to get you to go their way instead of God’s way.
    • Your Family- they don’t want to see that your doing better than them, and they will try anything.
    • You’re co-workers- you think you’re better than us.
    • Your School/classmates- separation of church and state. “Can’t bring bible or pray here”.
  1. Threatening You– Acts 4:13-21 Peter and John were threaten and then they further threatened them, they wanted to install fear in them to stop the preaching of the word of God.  The State- You Need a Permit to preach in the street. You will be fined because you’re too loud, etc. Acts 5:29 “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than man”. The Sinners- If you don’t marry these two from the same sex, we will go after your church. The Church Members- II Timothy 4:1-5 We will control the preacher or fire him if he keeps preaching like that.
  1. Beating You Up– Acts 5:24, 28, 40-42. Matthew 23:29, 33, 34 Jesus Christ prophesied that these things would happen. The apostles of Jesus Christ were beaten for preaching the word of God and yet the Bible says that they departed “rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name”. What a testimony worth of following.
  1. Putting You in Prison– Acts 4:3, Acts 8:3, Acts 12:5-7, Acts 16:23-27. When people don’t like your preaching, they will put you into jail and eventually they might put you into prison. II Corinthians 11:23 “Are they ministers of Christ? I speak as a fool I am more; in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft”. Revelation 2:10 “Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast someone you into prison, that ye may be tried”. Historically, these churches existed in the first century but doctrinally, this will happen during the tribulation if you are left behind.
  1. Killing You– Mark 6:14-29 King Herod had married his brothers wife and when John the Baptist told them, his wife didn’t like it and had him killed. When people don’t like that you are preaching the truth of God’s Word, they will kill you. Tragic thing that happened to a man by the name of Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated because of his stance in Jesus Christ. If people don’t agree with you’re preaching, they will simply try to kill you. This will happen more often, and it already is. Book: Foxes Book of Martyrs.

Conclusion: Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”. This devil and his devils will try anything to get you to quit you’re preaching, don’t give in, “because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” I John 4:4.
