God Can Use You (I Cor 6:9-11)

Introduction: God wants to use every single person that is here this morning. God has something great He wants you to do and be a part of. For God to use you, there are something that you must do.

You Can Be Used of God IF

You’re in the Right Family– John 8:1-3, 19, 38, 44. Jesus Christ here is speaking to the scribes and pharisees. He tells them that they have a different father than His Father. According to the Bible, we are in one of two families. We are either in the family of the devil or in the family of God.

  • In God’s family, God becomes your heavenly father- John 1:12-13
  • It’s Your Decision- “But as many as received Him”.
  • It’s Your Belief- “Even to them that believe on his name”.
  • It’s Not Physical- “not of blood, nor of the will fo the flesh”.
  • It’s Spiritual- “But of God”.
  • The Apostle Paul was used by God when he went from the devils family to God’s family- Acts 8:1-3, 9:1, 20 – There is a major difference between these two verses all because Paul went from the devils family to the family of God.

You Realize Who You Are– I Corinthians 6:9-11 “and such were some of you: but ye are washed, sanctified, justified”. Many Christians used to be or do these things however, just like the verse says, it’s in the past. If we are going to be used of God, we need to realize what we are in Christ:

Ye are Washed– Washed in the Blood of Jesus Christ. Revelation 1:5 “Unto him that loved us, and washed us form our sins in his own blood”.

Ye are Sanctified– Set apart from their sins unto the service of God.

Ye are Justified– We have been declared just. God made Jesus Christ sin for us. We have already been tried and Jesus was found guilty on our behalf. II Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin: that we might be made the righteousness of God in him”. Paul realized it- I Corinthians 15:9-10 “but by the grace of God I am what I am”. You’ll never have victory and live your full potential if you’re stuck in the past.

You Know What God Does With Your Sin Christians today feel that they can’t be used by God for His service because of their sin. According to I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. Because we are sinners saved by grace, the truth of the matter is that we are going to fall short of God’s glory however, we shouldn’t stay down, ask God to forgive you and move on.

Remembers No More- Jeremiah 31:34 “I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more”. God chooses not to remember, why do you keep remembering.

Cast Into The Sea- Micah 7:19 “and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea”. It’s in the depths of the sea, why do you keep bringing it up from all the way down there.

Removes as Far as the East From West- Psalm 103:12 “As far as the east is form the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us”. If they are removed that far apart, why do you keep bringing it close to you.

Cast Behind God’s Back- Isaiah 38:17 “for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back”. If they are in the back of God why do you keep bringing them up before Him. You are not defined by your past, but by your future. “I’m just a no good, sorry..”

Your sin has been paid in full, washed under the blood, and removed far from you.  Quit bringing it to the forefront and allowing it to hinder your service for God.

You See that God Doesn’t Repent– Romans 11:29 “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance”. Although this applies to the nation of Israel, practically, we can see how God deals with us. This means that God isn’t going to change his mind on your calling because you have chosen to go your way instead of His way. Get right, line up with Him, and be used of Him with your gifts and calling.

Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that he should lie”.

James 1:17 “every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning”. I’ve heard people say that they could never be used of God because of what they’ve done, God doesn’t change his mind on these matters. Illustration- “If I knew what I’ve done you wouldn’t be listening to me, and if I knew what you’ve done, I wouldn’t be preaching to you”.

Illustration- Jonathan Edwards a famous preacher was given a letter with his past before preaching and was told not to preach or else it would be read in public. The preacher got up and read it himself, after he said, “that’s why we need Jesus Christ”.

You Keep Your Life Clean– II Timothy 2:20-21- vessel, like a cup or bottle. To honor is to use for special guests, to dishonor is to use for the cat’s food. To purge is constantly be set apart, sanctified, as we gain victory over the world, flesh, and the devil. II Corinthians 7:1 “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God”. God want’s to use us however, you have to be clean and ready. Be vessel unto honor, meet for the Master’s use.

Conclusion: God wants to use you. If you’re not saved, get saved and get going for Him. If you’re saved, quit looking at the past, get cleaned up, and get to serving God.
