This study is regarding the Holy Spirit. According to several religions, the Holy Spirit of God is an active force or a power. This is false, according to the scriptures, He is a person John 16:7-14. The third person of the Godhead (Trinity), God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit of God does a couple of things in the life of the believer which we will discuss this evening. It is important to know how the Holy Spirit operates in your life so that you don’t miss out on what He is doing or wants to do in your life.
The Holy Spirit of God:
- Comforts the Believer – Jn 14:15-18 the Holy Spirit of God comforts us in time of need. Through loss, infirmity, troubles, discouragement, we are comforted in time of greatest need.
- Reproves the Believer- John 16:7-11 (Reprove-to blame, convince of a fault, to disapprove). Convicts the lost person to bring them to a saving knowledge and he convicts the believer to right relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Teaches & Guides the Believer to the Truth – Jn 14:26, 16:13-15 guide you into all truth, which are the scriptures. John 17:17 “sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth”.
- Intercedes for the Believer – Romans 8:26-27 What a great thing for the believer to have the Spirit of God take our prayers and line them up with the will of God and intercede for us in prayer according to the will of God in such a perfect manner.
- Gives the Believer Discernment- I Corinthians 2:11-16
- Sanctifies & Justifies the Believer – I Corinthians 6:11, 9-10 this is done “by the Spirit of God”. Furthermore, I John 1:9 this is accomplished after we confess our sins to God, and he forgives us of our sins.
- Fills the Believer – Ephesians 5:18 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit”. Galatians 5:16-23 The fruit of the Spirit manifested in the life of a believer will be the evidence that a Christian is full of the Spirit.
- Conclusion: The next time you think about what the Holy Spirit of God does in the life of a believer, think about these things. Consider that he is not just a force or power but a person who is present all the time.
