Introduction: In Matthew 28:18-20 the Lord Jesus Christ told his disciples in vs 16, the mission of Christianity. We are to continue in this mission and do our part. For that to happen, we must do the things that God tells us to do in His Word.
The work of Missions gets accomplished by:
Understanding Our Mission– Matthew 28:19 (Go, Teach, Baptize). Although this commission was given to the disciples, it has continued until this day through every Christian. A missionary is not a special, elite, Christian who takes on the entire responsibility on himself, we are all “missionaries” carrying forth His mission.
Listening and Obeying– Acts 13:1-5 “As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them”. There are sometimes in which God will call a specific person into a specific place to accomplish His mission. However, generally the Holy Spirit will prompt us to pass out a tract, a New Testament Bible, share scripture, or even give a testimony of salvation, we should listen and obey.
Preaching the Gospel – Mark 16:15 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature”. People don’t need philosophy, psychology, positive thinking, worldly advise, what they need is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ- I Corinthians 15:1-4
- The Gospel Saves- Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth”.
- Romans 10:14-15 “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace”.
Doing Our Part- It’s possible that God is not calling you to leave your job, sell your house, and have you move to another country with the express purpose of sharing the gospel to those people, however we can do something about those that have received that call. Such as Aure and Lizzie Tave who just came by our church and presented their work. What can we do for them:
- We Should Pray –Ephesians 6:18-19 “Praying always…that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel”. Missionaries need to be bold about preaching the gospel in a place they are not familiar with. They also have needs, petitions, obstacles, and even adversaries. I Corinthians 16:9 “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries”.
- We Should Give – II Corinthians 8:1-4 This church wanted to be a part of the work that was going on somewhere else. II Corinthians 11:9 “for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied”. How much should I give, what ever the Lord puts on your heart.
Conclusion: Now that we have learned what the Bible says about missions, I pray that God uses this church to continue God’s mission both locally and around the world.
